Parkstone is an area of Poole, split into Upper and Lower Parkstone. Upper Parkstone is named as such as it merely lays on higher ground when compared to ‘Lower’ Parkstone.

History of Parkstone

Parkstone was originally a ‘tything’ of the Parish of Cranford Magna, but in 1833 the Church of St Peter was built here, to serve the growing community.

By 1865, Parkstone had become its own parish. Roughly 1000 people lived here at this point, and the parish stretched down to Sandbanks.

In 1870, there was a decision to make a larger church, of which the construction did not complete until 1883.

This church is one of the largest churches in the Diocese of Salisbury, and even comes complete with a throne for the Bishop.

Later on, a massive Italian Basilica was created up the top of the hill. Recently, in 2005, this church became the first Romanian Orthodox Church in the UK.

Parkstone has seen enormous increases in property prices over the five years, to March 2020 reaching 16.52% on average.

The average house price in Bournemouth During March 2020 £322,996. This is under the average for the county of Dorset by almost £20,000.

Since March 2019, the property market here has increased by 4.37%.

This is an incredible increase for a singular 12 month period. If this increases then properties here will become highly coveted.

In terms of property types, flats in Parkstone sold for an average of £220,019 and terraced houses for £281,075 – This is according to Zoopla estimates.

Parkstone Schools

Including two superb towns nearby, Parkstone has a wide choice of education for all ages.

A vast choice of primary schools are available to you, with the best in the area being Baden-Powell and St Peter’s Church of England Junior School; Longfleet Church of England Primary School and Old Town Infant School and Nursery.

All of these schools received a ‘Good’ rating from Ofsted.

This being said, you’re choice of school is mostly to be dependant on where you live, and you will likely have to be within a given radius to be accepted to any of these schools.

When it comes to secondary schools, the majority of parents aim to get their children into Bournemouth School for Boys and Bournemouth School for Girls.

While these may be a short distance away, both schools have fantastic standards; both received an ‘outstanding’ from Ofsted and almost every student (98%) obtains 5+ GCSEs between an A* and C (the national average is 60%).
