    Moving to Bridport

    Move to Bridport Today

The surreal market town of Bridport is a stunning location for all to enjoy. With an abundance of activities and a high quality of life, Bridport may just be the move for you. Here are a few key things to know about Bridport:

While this may be a small town, it’s the people that make this town lovely, as they are often described as friendly and welcoming, especially to newcomers.

The famed Bridport Arts Centre opened in 1973; hosting art exhibitions, music and live screenings.

Only a short drive from Jurassic Coast. This World Heritage Site stretches 95 miles, and the rocks here have recorded over 185 million years of the Earth’s history.

There are plenty of festivals spread throughout the year, from music festivals to a unique festival based on hats!

    History of Bridport

Bridport was an incredibly important settlement in the early years. In the 9th century, it formed a fortified settlement to fight against the Danish invaders.

Bridport was famous for its rope making. King Henry III once ordered all hemp within 5 miles to be kept solely for Bridport so that more rope could be made for his navy.

The installation of a train station in 1857 made the town far more accessible, making travel between local villages, as well as trading far easier.

As of today, Bridport remains a prosperous market town and is very popular with tourists. This popularity has increased over the past decade with the release of the tv series ‘Broadchurch’, which was filmed in Bridport.

    Bridport Property Prices

There are currently plenty of property developments occurring in Bridport, one example being the Watton Park development, set to create 33 new homes on the outskirts of Bridport.

The average house price in Bridport during March 2020 was £344,526. This is nigh-on the average for the county of Dorset, and this is to be expected in this iconic area surrounded by famous landmarks.

In the past 12 months, the property market has slightly decreased. Meaning there may be no better time to purchase your dream property here in Bridport.

In terms of property types, flats in Bridport sold for an average of £195,985 and terraced houses for £257,823 – Statistics according to Zoopla estimates.

    Bridport Schools

Being a small town, you would think that the choice of schools is limited. This may be true when it comes to secondary school; however there are plenty of primary schools in the town.

Burton Bradstock CofE, St Catherine’s Catholic, Symondsbury CofE and St Mary’s CofE are all rated as “good” by Ofsted.

Most children will then filter into The Sir John Colfox School. This is the only secondary school in the area and was given a “good” rating by Ofsted at their last inspection. There are however a few more to the north and west which are also of a high rating.

    Things To Do in Bridport

The best part about Bridport, apart from the thriving arts scene, is the location. To the west, you have Lime Regis, to the south you’ve got the Jurassic Coast and to the east you have Dorchester.

Everything is easily accessible from Bridport, but this doesn’t mean you have to travel far to do something enjoyable and exciting.

If you’re looking for something different, why not take a tour of the local brewery, Palmer’s Brewery. The draught ales here have won multiple awards, brewing ales since 1794.

If you love a good market, then Wednesday’s and Saturdays from 8am till mid-afternoon, you’ll find the brilliant Bridport Market taking place in Bridport’s three main streets, selling everything from IT goods to flowers and paintings.

Moving to Bridport will finally put you back in touch with nature, and will open you up to so many new experiences that are just a short trip away.
